Fellowship period: September 2027 until July 2029

Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies (AIAS) at Aarhus University, Denmark, is pleased to announce up to 10 individual AIAS-AUFF Fellowships for curiosity-driven and talented researchers from all over the world and within all research disciplines.

The fellowships are open to researchers with 2 to 10 years of experience after completion of their PhD. The fellowships start on September 1, 2027, and run for 23 months until July 2029.

AIAS-AUFF Fellowship Programme

The AIAS-AUFF Fellowship Programme offers researchers the time and space to develop their research in an international and interdisciplinary environment. AIAS brings researchers together across disciplines, academic seniority and borders in a thriving, diverse and creative research environment.

The programme welcomes applications from all research disciplines and encourages interdisciplinary research projects and interests. Fellows will have opportunities to engage with researchers from different disciplines at AIAS and across Aarhus University, as well as to participate in academic activities, conferences and workshops.

Who can apply?

The call is open to curiosity-driven researchers and welcomes applications from researchers:

  • with a career experience of 2 to 10 years after completion of their PhD by the deadline of the call
  • from all research disciplines of any nationality
  • who comply with a mobility demand as applicants must not have resided or carried out their main work activity in Denmark for more than 12 months in the two years immediately prior to the deadline of the call.
  • who have an interdisciplinary research project and/or interest
  • who have/see relevant collaboration possibilities at Aarhus University

The fellowship includes

  • a salary based on seniority (employment conditions and wages are regulated through the Danish collective union agreements)
  • relocation travel costs covered
  • relocation assistance

Fellows will have office space at AIAS and can participate in the academic training activities, conferences and workshops at AIAS. They will also be affiliated with the relevant research environments at Aarhus University.

Timeline of the application process

  • Opening of call: August 2026.
  • Deadline for applications: 3 November 2026 at 12.00 (noon) CET.
  • Evaluation and selection period: November 2026 -February 2027.
  • Applicants will receive answers: March 2027.
  • Fellowships begin: 1 September 2027.
